n.5 Phthalo Turquoise
n.10 Indigo
n.9 Raw Sienna
Watercolour paper NOT 280gsm 38 x 28cm

additional exercise using all materials above
please be with me
reminds me of ‘when you get given lemons…’ not very novel

planning:
overall the plan is to allow the brush to do the work
whatever the plan is, not to impose that structure in a solid way
just keeping it im mind vaguely

n.5 and Phthalo Turquoise seem like two opposite forces to me
thank you and I don’t believe you
contrasts perhaps, broken lines perhaps, broken images, cubist-like
n.5 thank God, thankfulness is smooth
Phthalo Turquise is the colour of the sea sometimes
strangely opposite, seeing and smoothing over have opposite effects but Phthalo, seeing, is the giver and thank you, smoothing, the taker away
n.10 and Indigo again opposite
10 is loving what is but not too much and Indigo represents no in crochet
one is about balance and the other is about absolutes
n.9 speak the truth in Raw Sienna which is about religions, structures or the highlights thereof
indicating the framework
9 is the rainbow, all colours in truth
all colours can be beautiful
– when thank you is meant and when it is not
– when appreciation is felt and when it is not
the difference
here Raw Sienna perhaps represents the Church of Truth if there were such a thing
where thankfulness in Phthalo Turquoise is true there is Raw Sienna
where appreciation in Indigo is true there is Raw Sienna
otherwise they are disbelief and no
broken lines perhaps where there is no Raw Sienna to bring the light of truth
for shapes generally perhaps worlds in n.9 indicate spheres or circles
and rainbows indicate successive lines
must be careful not to let this get too dark
very strong colours in blue
they could also be heaven and sea in lighter shades
worlds being like islands and planets
joined by lines of Raw Sienna in truth
making them whole, not broken

to my mind the ‘Church of Truth’ would be the line ‘what makes You happy is good’ or rather the idea it expresses: that the choice of God is good and best and stands above any other temporary truth, logic or reason, at all times

though it will likely be surpassed by something beyond my present understanding in future

on the other hand I have had in mind recently wheels, circles with spokes, it was an idea given to me in my youth which I had not been able to draw or paint successfully (I failed the Art A Level equivalent), perhaps that idea again

keeping in mind the ideas below generally but not imposing any actual shapes or patterns this time
letting the brush do the painting without trying to control it

the plan is…
n.3 Respect God, looking back at, doubling again
in Raw Sienna which to me represents religions, structures, framework
combined with n.3 and the trinity in particular Christian beliefs, God being called Jesus, the cross perhaps
symbolised by trees, while waving trees may show the way
knowing God, by any name or any symbol, to be our guide
though they form specific frameworks
so here the framework of a tree perhaps
there is Burnt Umber which looks like wood
so perhaps Raw Sienna is not what gives the framework but that which highlights it
n.10 valuing everything but not too much, try to live what you love whilst loving what you live
bare tree trunks
there is no green here
n.6 be tolerant, everything is dear to God, this is about detail
Rhodonite Genuine is artful beauty but here it is contained in details it seems
all can know the peace that comes from being part of God
it does not stand alone
it is a part of the Burnt Umber, part of the structure and perhaps also part of the highlighting
like a blushing sky
overall n.3 gives a mirroring, so very fluid, like a watery reflection perhaps
also Rhodonite feels strange to me in this context, so perhaps like a mirage
almost unreal

n.5 thank God, find the joy in what God gives
in Winsor Red Deep, WRD word
the word thank you like written on a card in outline
filling the paper with outlines
perhaps flowery shapes, wavy lines, You paint my world in flower words
n.10 value what is but not too much
painted in Raw Umber which is shadows, doubling, giving depth
so painting flat, without perspective, in some areas
n.7 work diligently, God makes a gift of every day
dual meaning of working and giving, two sides
Turner’s Yellow, sunshine, two sides, the warmth and the burn
gold or fear
perhaps some yellow given depth with Umber and some kept flat throughout
these colours remind me of cubist paintings by Paul Klee before the war
eg Scenecio https://www.artworkonly.com/famous-art/scenecio-by-paul-klee-famous-art-handmade-oil-painting-on-canvas

p.s. this combination has every second is a pot of gold, work diligently in Turner’s Yellow which symbolises gold in the crochet
but flower words got in the way
and yet this is the pot of gold
because every second is

planning
n.10 is about valuing what there is, without giving it too much importance as it is only as good as God makes it
Raw Sienna – to me seems about framework, structure – it is a warm reddish yellow
n.3 Respect, painted in Raw Umber, this is a dark yellow, the word comes from Italian Ombra or French Ombre, both meaning shadow
Respect – from the Latin respicere re back specere to look at
mirroring and shadows, both forms of duplicating in a way parhaps in the images
Respect – implies care – applying the paint carefully perhaps
n.6 be tolerant, everything is dear to God, this seems about the detail
painted in Manganese Bue Hue which to me symbolises money or correctness, so perhaps true, actual shapes, like circles, squares and triangles

planning
n.6, be tolerant, everything is dear to You
feels to me about detail, not sweeping but small brush strokes
not like in n.9 where small is in fact grand, but actually small
small patterns, perhaps like those found on ceramic tiles, repeated patterns
Raw Sienna makes me think of the light or guidance given by religions which is often within a regulated framework
so perhaps framed patterns
n.7 work diligently, You make a gift of every day, things may not be as they appear
painted in Lapis Lazuli Genuine which for me symbolises God, the purest and most genuine
I don’t like to interfere with this colour too much
this will be larger images
these images are not really painted by me, I am only the instrument, as with everything
going to Museums reminds me of this most forcibly, seeing the continuity of God’s work
through and for mankind
You paint my world in flower words even though I have no n.4
n.3 respect God, Your wishes are the air I breathe in Winsor Red Deep
initials wrd, this could be the flower words

waiting for painting above to proceed
thinking of how to paint the exercise

n.7 working diligently or not being allowed to
here God chose the colour red symbolising love, often, perhaps indicating no time can be wasted providing there is love
because love conquers time
though this may not be clear in one lifetime, perhaps that is why Petrarch did not make that connection in his poem of the Triumphs
these colours are so strong, they will likely be mixed on this occasion, red and green often makes a very dark colour, black or brown, but neutral, strange, symbolizing love and joy combined
some work that is so easy today used to be very difficult, over lifetimes of diligent work they have become easier
the work that was done with love
for example, at the V&A was a Constable sketch/painting called The Leaping Horse – “local Suffolk barge horses were specially trained to jump over three feet high barriers erected along the tow path in order to keep cattle from straying… the horse (in the painting) is in fact leaping over a crossing which takes the horse and rider from Essex into his native Suffolk” https://www.royalacademy.org.uk/art-artists/work-of-art/the-leaping-horse
now there are motorways
love conquers time

n.4 your loving light shines out through all your guides
this will need to be spaces kept white to shine out
so effectively negative spaces being made positive
like not being able to work not being as it appears
but being a light in some way
understood in its own time or not

n.3 Raw Umber is a murky dark yellow
reminds me of the fact that no matter how bright a truth may appear to shine at one time it is likely to be shown as incomplete if not erroneous in the future
all part of life’s rich tapestry

while the above painting is not being given
thinking about how to paint the watercolour exercise
the refusal to proceed causes anxiety a bit like grief which is unhelpful in this form
redefining the refusal
the plan is:
n.4 for instance instead of focusing on the words not being given, the grief, focusing on the beauty of flowers which are, the absence of children wise or otherwise, ‘chill then why see’, focus on things that are present, chill, as in ice or calm, relax or still, like rocks or earth, as a general rule
n.6 the inability to work diligently or otherwise redefined as a lie itself, no time is ever wasted, things may not be as they appear
n.10 remembering this is just an exercise, it may be nothing at all or immensely important, not based on itself but based on what God makes of it and it is rightly valued in this way
